Matt Warner is the co-founder and chief executive of Blumira, a security operations company in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that sells SIEM and automated response to small and mid-sized IT teams. He co-founded Blumira in 2018 with Steve Fuller after running security services at the managed security provider NetWorks Group, and he was the company's chief technology officer before becoming CEO.
Security Services at NetWorks Group
Before Blumira, Warner was director of security services at NetWorks Group, a managed security services provider focused on compliance and ethical hacking, and before that he co-founded Aegis Data Security. Blumira's author page says his team at NetWorks Group searched for a SIEM that would serve its small and mid-sized clients, but found that most products on the market were overly complex, expensive, and difficult to maintain.
He built a threat detection and response platform that small businesses could use, and after it worked inside NetWorks Group he founded Blumira with Fuller, who had founded NetWorks Group in 1997, to grow it.
From CTO to CEO at Blumira
Warner served as Blumira's CTO through its early growth. In 2022 he received the CTO of the Year award from the Globee Cybersecurity Global Excellence Awards, recognized for research on additional Log4j vulnerabilities and for Blumira's State of Threat Detection and Response Report. He is now the company's CEO.
His writing on Blumira's MSP site focuses on where security operations is headed, how mid-market buyers evaluate security vendors, and the economics that make managed security work at scale. SC Media says he shares practical guidance through webinars, articles, and podcasts to help resource-constrained MSPs and small businesses improve their security maturity.
