Our take
Blumira is a strong pick for a small or mid-sized organization whose IT team has to handle security alerts without a SOC. Prices are published per employee with no charge for log volume, support averages 26 minutes per request, and a 30-day trial of the top edition lets a team test it on its own logs.

Who uses Blumira and what it's for
Blumira is built for IT generalists at small and mid-sized organizations that need threat detection and response without hiring security analysts. Its about page says it was founded out of frustration with SIEM platforms that were too complex for those teams.1 Its Series B release lists customers in manufacturing and healthcare, credit unions, colleges and universities, and municipalities, and reports eightfold growth in the managed service provider channel.2
Its best uses are collecting logs from cloud and on-premises systems, turning them into a short list of findings with guidance on what to do, and isolating an infected computer automatically.32 Blumira publishes per-employee prices that sit at the lower end of the managed SIEM market, and its competitors include Huntress, Todyl, and Field Effect.
Cloud SIEM, Honeypots, and Automated Containment
Every edition includes Blumira's cloud SIEM with pre-built detections, best-practice guidance attached to each finding, and a year of log retention with no limit on data ingested.3 The Respond edition adds the Blumira Agent for endpoint detection and response, honeypots that catch an attacker moving inside the network, host isolation, and dynamic blocklists.3 The Automate edition adds AI summaries of findings, which Blumira calls SOC Auto-Focus, and automated containment.3
The product menu also lists Hearth, an AI security analyst, and Kindling, which delivers case alerts with evidence, reasoning, and a next action.3 Array Ventures reports that the Kindling pilot launched in May 2026 cut alerts by 30 to 50 times through automated triage.4
Published Prices Per Employee
Blumira lists three editions: Detect at $12 per employee per month, Respond at $16, and Automate at $21.3 The count is the number of knowledge workers with a corporate email address, not the number of people who log in to Blumira, and data ingestion is unlimited.3 Detect carries a required one-time onboarding fee of $500 and Respond $250, while Automate includes onboarding.3 Contracts are annual, and Blumira offers volume, nonprofit, government, and education discounts.3
Its support teams average 26 minutes per request and 18 minutes for critical incidents, and the security operations team is available around the clock for incidents on the Respond and Automate editions.3 A company of 200 employees would pay $3,200 a month for Respond.
Two Founders From an Ann Arbor MSSP
Matt Warner and Steve Fuller started Blumira in Ann Arbor in 2018. Both came from NetWorks Group, the managed security services provider Fuller founded in 1997, where Warner was director of security services.45 Warner was the company's CTO and is now CEO.6
Blumira raised a $10.3 million Series A in August 2021 and a $15 million Series B in June 2023 led by Ten Eleven Ventures, with RPS Ventures, Mercury Fund, HPA, and Duo Security co-founder Jon Oberheide.72 Array Ventures puts total funding at $42.9 million.4 At the Series B, the company reported 100% year-over-year customer growth.2
How it compares with Huntress and Todyl
Huntress combines managed EDR with a 24/7 SOC that investigates for customers, and it sells mostly through MSPs. Todyl puts SASE, endpoint security, SIEM, and a managed detection team in one agent, also through the channel. Blumira sells directly to IT teams as well as through MSPs, and it leaves more of the response to the customer, with automation and guidance in place of a fully managed SOC on its lower editions.3
A buyer that wants a provider to investigate every alert will lean toward Huntress. One that wants a predictable SIEM bill and is willing to act on findings itself has a published price to compare with Blumira.
Where Blumira falls short
Round-the-clock help from Blumira's security operations team covers incidents only on Respond and Automate, so Detect customers get daytime help for security questions.3 The onboarding fee on the two lower editions adds to the first-year cost.3
Blumira is smaller than the MDR providers it competes with, and its leadership has changed: Jim Simpson led the company at the Series B, and Warner, a co-founder, now holds the CEO title.26

Buyer sentiment
- “We pay per employee and never think about log volume, which made the SIEM budget easy to defend.”
- “Findings come with steps to fix them, so our two-person IT team can act without a security analyst.”
- “On the Detect edition, after-hours help covers only incidents on the higher plans, so a weekend alert on Detect waits for us.”
- “The onboarding fee and the annual contract mean you commit before you know how noisy your environment is.”
