John Nellen

Founder and CEO, Todyl

CyberReviewed Editorial Team · Updated

John Nellen is the founder and chief executive of Todyl, a cybersecurity platform company in Denver, Colorado, that sells secure access, endpoint security, SIEM, and managed detection through managed service providers. He spent nearly eight years running engineering and information security at Next Jump before founding Todyl in 2015.

Running Security at Next Jump

Nellen spent nearly eight years at Next Jump as senior director of engineering and technology and head of information security, managing security programs for a company that served more than 70% of the Fortune 1000. His Todyl author page says that while there he realized end-to-end security programs need a unified approach, not a maze of tools and vendors, and that insight led him to start Todyl.

Founding Todyl in 2015

He founded Todyl in 2015 and built it around a single agent that delivers several security products at once. When Todyl raised a $50 million Series B in March 2024, he described the gap he set out to close: Small and medium businesses are facing sophisticated cyber threats at an unprecedented frequency. He said the company purpose-built our platform to utilize a single agent that delivers the capabilities of multiple point solutions.

TechOperators, which led Todyl's seed round and invested again in later rounds, credits Nellen with founder-market fit and says his vision of giving MSPs and mid-market businesses tools that rival those of the largest enterprises has not wavered. Under his leadership Todyl has raised $85 million, grown to more than 150 employees in four offices, and protects more than 10,000 businesses.

RSA and IRONSCALES in 2026

In January 2026, RSA chose Todyl to power its security operations center. Nellen said RSA put us against enterprise market leaders, demanded real-time visibility, and brought world-class sophistication to the evaluation.

In October 2026 Todyl added email security from IRONSCALES. Nellen said the company chose IRONSCALES because it combines AI-powered threat detection and automated response with human expertise.
