Our take
Twingate is a strong pick for a company that wants to retire its VPN quickly and pay a published per-user price. Its free plan covers 5 users, and paid plans start at $5 or $10 per user per month on yearly billing. Reviewers report that Windows Server has no native connector and that some networks that decrypt and scan encrypted web traffic (SSL inspection) cause problems.

Who uses Twingate and what it's for
Twingate's customer page shows fintech, gaming, and health companies, including Blend, Kooapps, and Modern Health, with case studies that include ConsumerAffairs on VPN replacement and Appen on verifying a contractor workforce.10 Published plans run up to 100 users on Teams and 500 on Business, with custom account sizes on Enterprise.1 It fits best as a VPN replacement for employees reaching an office network or private networks in the cloud, as access control for engineers working in on-premises and cloud infrastructure, and as remote access to a home network, which the $15 a month Home plan covers.111
Twingate lists $5 and $10 per user per month on yearly billing. Tailscale lists $8 and $18 per user per month for its Standard and Premium plans.113 Cloudflare Zero Trust is free for teams under 50 users and $7 per user per month, billed annually, on its pay-as-you-go plan for larger teams.1714 Zscaler Private Access shows no price on its product page.15
PeerSpot lists Cloudflare One, Zscaler's Zero Trust Exchange, and Tailscale among Twingate's alternatives.12 Tailscale connects devices directly to each other, where Twingate connects users to resources through a connector in an existing network.16 Cloudflare Access does a similar job, letting employees and contractors reach internal and cloud apps without a VPN, and Cloudflare sells it as part of Cloudflare One alongside its network and firewall services.1714 Zscaler Private Access connects users to specific apps instead of the whole company network, and Zscaler sells it with tools that inspect that traffic and stop sensitive data from leaving.15
Per-resource access in place of a VPN
A Twingate connector runs inside each private network, with ready-made deployment scripts for Docker, Linux, AWS, Kubernetes and Azure, and clients run on macOS, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS and Android.6 Access is granted per resource. The Enterprise plan adds geoblocking, static IPs and Privileged Access for Kubernetes, SSH, databases and web apps, with session recording.1 The changelog shows steady releases through October 2026, including Privileged Access for SSH in May 2026, HTTPS for Privileged Access for Web Apps in October 2026 and just-in-time access in October 2025.6
Published per-user prices
The Starter plan is free for up to 5 users. Teams costs $5 per user per month on yearly billing or $6 on monthly billing for up to 100 users, and Business costs $10 per user per month on yearly billing or $12 on monthly billing for up to 500 users; the pricing page labels yearly billing with a 15% saving. Enterprise is priced on request and adds a custom master services agreement, service levels and invoice billing. A Home plan costs $15 a month for up to 7 users on non-commercial networks.1 Twingate says a first setup takes 15 minutes or less.1
Three co-founders and two rounds
Tony Huie, Alex Marshall and Lior Rozner, who had built products at Dropbox and Microsoft, founded Twingate in 2019 and made it available worldwide in October 2020 with a $17 million Series A from WndrCo, 8VC, Green Bay Ventures and SignalFire, plus Dropbox founders Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi.34 In April 2022 it raised a $42 million Series B led by BOND, with WndrCo, 8VC and SignalFire returning, and launched its free Starter plan at the same time.5 Twingate says it is remote-first, with a core team in Redwood City, California.2 It received a SOC 2 Type 2 report in April 2021.6
How it compares with Teleport and Portnox
Teleport gives engineers certificate-based access to servers, clusters and databases and records each session, with a cloud version that starts at $50,000 a year. Portnox checks each device before it can join the office network and prices per device. Twingate covers the remote-access job a VPN used to do for every employee, at a per-user price a small team can buy online, and has added privileged access for engineers on its Enterprise plan.
Limits
Twingate opened a waitlist in June 2026 for a native Windows connector and says it is exploring that support.6 G2 reviewers report trouble on networks that use SSL inspection and no way to drain a connector gracefully before an upgrade.8 Privileged Access, static IPs and custom contracts are Enterprise-only, and Enterprise prices are not published.1
