Our take
Portnox is a practical way to replace appliance-based network access control with a cloud service, and it bundles RADIUS, remote access and TACACS+ that buyers would otherwise purchase separately. Most prices are quoted per device, so costs are hard to compare before talking to sales. Reviewers praise the visibility and passwordless login but mention some delay during authentication.

Access control without appliances
Portnox Cloud covers four jobs. Its RADIUS service handles 802.1X authentication for wired and wireless networks, with dynamic VLAN assignment and profiling for more than 260,000 device types. Its network access control adds continuous risk checks of each device, agent and agentless posture assessment, and passwordless login with certificates. Its zero trust network access gives users clientless access to SaaS and private applications, and its TACACS+ service controls administrator access to switches and routers from Cisco, Juniper, Dell and F5.1
The company says its platform now manages more than one million devices and handles more than 40 million authentication sessions a day.3 In the first half of 2026 it added recorded terminal sessions for RDP, SSH, VNC and Telnet, with AI-written summaries of each session, and a stand-alone captive portal for guests and contractors.3
Prices quoted per device
Portnox sells its products as subscriptions priced per device, with 12, 24 and 36-month terms and extra discounts for terms longer than a year.1 Its pricing page shows one figure, $1 per device for certificate services, and lists TACACS+ by administrator and 100 devices; other prices come from sales, with volume and education discounts available.1 A 30-day free trial covers the full set of features.1
Israeli roots and a Texas reset
Portnox was founded in Israel in 2007 by engineers who had worked together on network security for the Israeli Air Force, according to CEO Denny LeCompte.4 It launched what it calls the first cloud-native network access control product in 2017.2 In 2022 Elsewhere Partners led a $22 million Series A, brought in a new executive team and moved the headquarters to Austin, Texas, and Updata Partners led a $37.5 million Series B in 2025.25
LeCompte has described Elsewhere as having acquired Portnox in early 2022 and said the cloud product has grown more than four times since.4 The company reported 52% growth in second-quarter bookings in 2026 and says more than 1,000 organizations use Portnox.23
How it compares with Silverfort and JumpCloud
Silverfort protects logins across Active Directory and legacy applications and is strongest at service accounts, but it does not control which devices join a network. JumpCloud is a directory and device management platform for small and medium IT teams that includes its own cloud RADIUS. Portnox is the most focused of the three on the network itself, deciding which laptops, phones and IoT devices can connect, and it adds TACACS+ for network administrators.
Limits
Apart from certificate services, Portnox does not publish its prices, so buyers need a quote to compare it with other access control products.1 One PeerSpot reviewer found that authentication steps can slow access, and a reseller in Kenya asked for more partner training and sales support, a gap the company says it is addressing with a partner program launched in 2026.367

What customers say
Quoted word for word from public reviews on PeerSpot, retrieved October 24, 2026. Each quote links to the review or post it comes from.
Where it helps
The passwordless authentication approach has a significant effect on our vulnerability to common credential threats, and this is one of the winners for the solution.
These features are important to me because they provide visibility into devices connecting to the network and automatically enforce security policies without requiring extensive manual administration, which has been very helpful.
Where it falls short
In many situations, the authentication steps cause slightly slow access and introduce some delay in the authentication process.
I would like to see stronger partner enablement from Portnox, particularly more regular technical and sales training, updated enablement materials, competitive positioning, and more support with customer engagements.
