What to look for
Business email compromise, in which a criminal poses as a colleague or supplier to redirect a payment, accounted for $3.05 billion in losses reported to the FBI in 2025.1 Many of these messages carry no malware or link, so filters that look for bad attachments let them through. Email security products now differ mainly in how they connect to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, by API inside the mailbox or as a gateway in the mail path, and in how much review work they leave for the security team. Some also include phishing simulation, which can remove the need for a separate training product.
